Menorca is a small island in the Balearic archipelago where the land is dry and rocky. The design of these strong flexible sandals was based on the people's needs with the island's terrain. The Menorcan peasants found that the avarca was the ideal shoe to wear when working in the fields. The avarca became a tradition and as time went by, it also became the island’s symbol of identity, perfectly adaptable to modern life.
